District Governor CP Jimmy Lau led a delegation of Rotarians from Hong Kong and Macau to Ulaanbaatar, attending the handover ceremonies for both initiatives on the morning of 21 August.

In his address, Governor Jimmy emphasised that these initiatives exemplify Rotary’s core mission: “identifying genuine community needs, building strong partnerships, and turning compassion into sustainable action.” He noted that through the support of The Rotary Foundation and international partners, local dedication delivers enduring community benefits.

The US$70,000 upgrade to the Rehabilitation Centre will strengthen comprehensive oncology care and recovery services in Mongolia. The Rotary Club of Khuree led the project in partnership with the Geoje Big Dragon, Geoje Rose, and Geoje Tiger Rotary Clubs from District 3590 in the Republic of Korea.

A separate US$87,000 project established a dedicated kindergarten facility for the children of medical and hospital staff. Led by the Rotary Club of Khangai, this initiative was supported by the Cheonan West Rotary Club alongside partner clubs from Rotary International Districts 3620 and 3830.

To discuss future funding requirements and explore new community initiatives in Mongolia, District Governor Jimmy hosted a dinner for Club Presidents from Areas 9 and 10 and visiting Hong Kong and Macau Club Presidents. During the gathering, Governor Jimmy encouraged all participating clubs to pursue high-impact service partnerships across the region.

At the traditional Governor’s Banquet, Governor Jimmy addressed more than 120 Rotarians and guests to tell them that “lasting impact begins when we listen carefully to communities, work with trusted partners, measure our results, and develop projects that local people can sustain. It is created when service is rooted not only in charity, but also in respect, partnership, and empowerment.”

He extended his appreciation to local club leadership and members for their service. “Thank you for choosing to give your time, talent, and resources to serve others. Your work is evident in the lives you touch, even if it is not always visible in headlines or statistics.”

Turning to the youth leaders present, Governor Jimmy recognised the contributions of Rotaractors and Interactors, describing their energy and bold thinking as essential drivers for the future of humanitarian service. He concluded by thanking partners, families, and friends for supporting Rotary’s shared mission.

During the Official Club Visits, Governor Jimmy met with the boards of Areas 9 and 10 Clubs to review membership development, Foundation giving, and upcoming project plans, pledging District support for their annual goals.

On the final day of the visit, Governor Jimmy and District Officers were received by Dr Janchiv Galbadrakh, Member of the State Great Hural (Parliament) of Mongolia and Past Assistant Governor. Dr Galbadrakh shared insights on educational reforms and ongoing initiatives to prepare Mongolian youth for the challenges of an interconnected world.

<figure class="wp-block-image
