{"id":304,"date":"2026-08-18T04:01:33","date_gmt":"2026-08-18T04:01:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsletter2627.rid3450.org\/?p=304"},"modified":"2026-08-18T14:28:07","modified_gmt":"2026-08-18T14:28:07","slug":"district-preserve-planet-earth-ppe-seminar-2026-27-cum-green-clubs-award-presentation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsletter2627.rid3450.org\/?p=304","title":{"rendered":"District Preserve Planet Earth (PPE) Seminar 2026\u201327 cum Green Clubs Award Presentation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">8 August 2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The District Preserve Planet Earth (PPE) Seminar 2026\u201327, together with the Green Clubs Award Presentation, brought together Rotarians, Rotaractors, service partners and guests to celebrate the year\u2019s achievements and spark renewed momentum for environmental sustainability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Saturday, 8 August 2026, more than 90 Rotarians, Rotaractors and friends gathered at the Hong Kong Productivity Council Conference Hall \u2014turning a Saturday morning into a powerful meeting of inspiration, knowledge, and action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-custom-245-d-34-color has-text-color has-link-color coblocks-animate wp-elements-1 wp-block-paragraph\" data-coblocks-animation=\"slideInLeft\"><strong><strong>Opening Remarks: Leader\u2019s Encouragement<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">District Governor Jimmy Lau set the tone for the event with words of encouragement and a reminder that climate action begins close to home. \u00a0He emphasized that real change grows from consistent everyday habits, community collaboration, and long-term environmental education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-custom-245-d-34-color has-text-color has-link-color coblocks-animate wp-elements-2 wp-block-paragraph\" data-coblocks-animation=\"slideInLeft\"><strong><strong>Celebrating Progress: Last Year\u2019s Work<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Participants first reviewed the District\u2019s achievements from last Rotary year through a recap session and a screening of an activities documentary.&nbsp; The documentary highlighted how PPE initiatives strengthened environmental awareness\u2014especially in areas of Water Conservation and Glacier Preservation \u2014 while also nurturing a lasting culture of community service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">District PPE Chairlady Wendy Lee then shared reflections on outcomes and impact. &nbsp;She recognized the dedication of Green Clubs and volunteers, and stressed that awareness must translate into practical action, including:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Glacial &amp; water preservation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Waste reduction<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sustainability education<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Community outreach<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Youth engagement<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-custom-245-d-34-color has-text-color has-link-color coblocks-animate wp-elements-3 wp-block-paragraph\" data-coblocks-animation=\"slideInLeft\"><strong><strong>Green Clubs Awards: Recognition that Inspires<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Green Clubs Award Presentation followed, celebrating clubs for their outstanding performance, creativity, and sustained impact.&nbsp; Clubs were recognized with 1-star, 3-star, and the highest 5-star awards.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the top of the list, Rotary Club of Kwai Chung achieved the highest score and received a special recognition package, including coupons for 300 mooncakes to support their service gift-out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The award session was more than a celebration\u2014it served as motivation for all clubs to keep building measurable, community-driven sustainability initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-custom-245-d-34-color has-text-color has-link-color coblocks-animate wp-elements-4 wp-block-paragraph\" data-coblocks-animation=\"slideInLeft\"><strong><strong>Speaker Session: Ideas from the Experts<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-custom-245-d-34-color has-text-color has-link-color coblocks-animate wp-elements-5 wp-block-paragraph\" data-coblocks-animation=\"slideInLeft\"><strong><strong>Ms. Vivien Cheng \u2014 Community and City Waste Reduction<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ms. Vivien Cheng, Acting Executive Director and Director of Community Partnership at \u201cThe Green Earth\u201d (\u7da0\u60dc\u5730\u7403) is a former Rotaractor and she felt at home speaking to us on how Hong Kong can reduce waste by valuing resources and strengthening education and action (\u60dc\u7269\u6e1b\u5ee2 &#8211; \u6559\u80b2\u8207\u884c\u52d5).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She drew from practical experience and community perspective, sharing how daily habits such as source separation, reflective spending, together with green education in schools, communities, and businesses, can drive real change toward a more sustainable city.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In response, District Treasurer Margaret Mak commented on how corporates can further support recycling\u2014particularly through effective recycling implementation in malls, plazas, and estates, where kitchen waste is abundant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-custom-245-d-34-color has-text-color has-link-color coblocks-animate wp-elements-6 wp-block-paragraph\" data-coblocks-animation=\"slideInLeft\"><strong><strong>Dr. Apple Chui \u2014 Climate Change Impacts on Coral Communities<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Next, Dr. Apple Chui, Research Assistant Professor at CUHK School of Life Sciences and Founder of Coral Academy, presented her research on: \u201cResearch, Restoration Practice and Public Engagement on Coral Recovery\u201d (\u73ca\u745a\u5f9e\u8870\u9000\u5230\u91cd\u751f: \u7814\u7a76\u3001\u4fee\u5fa9\u5be6\u8e10\u8207\u516c\u773e\u53c3\u8207)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Affectionately nick-named \u201cCoral Mum\u201d, Dr. Chui shared scientific insights into how climate-related stressors affect coral ecosystems, while also outlining interventions that strengthen coral resilience and support restoration work. Her passion for coral breeding and preservation captured the audience\u2019s full attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-custom-245-d-34-color has-text-color has-link-color coblocks-animate wp-elements-7 wp-block-paragraph\" data-coblocks-animation=\"slideInLeft\"><strong><strong>PPE 2026\u201327 Preview: A Year of Impact Ahead<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To close the programme, the PPE Committee introduced the upcoming PPE activities for 2026\u201327, including engaging initiatives such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Coral World project<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Glacier Conservation Instructor Training Workshop (\u51b0\u5ddd\u4fdd\u80b2\u8b1b\u5ea7\u5c0e\u5e2b\u57f9\u8a13\u8ab2\u7a0b) during the school term<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>4D3N trip (early January 2027) to Esquel\u2019s Sustainable Development Garden in Guilin (\u6842\u6797 \u6ea2\u9054\u300c\u5341\u5982\u300d\u53ef\u6301\u7e8c\u767c\u5c55\u5ee0\u623f)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>World Water Day celebration: Visit to the Seawater Desalination Plant in Tseung Kwan O (\u5c07\u8ecd\u6fb3\u6d77\u6c34\u6de1\u5316\u5ee0)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sustainable Development TV Programme with RTHK 31 (\u8207\u9999\u6e2f\u96fb\u53f0 RTHK 31 class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As participants left the hall, one message echoed clearly: Let\u2019s learn together, strengthen collaboration, and preserve Planet Earth through sustained action and
