Message from DG Jimmy Lau

As we navigate the 2026-2027 Rotary year, I am continually inspired by the energy, passion, and dedication present in our District. In this newsletter, I am thrilled to share several exciting updates, including three major regional End Polio Walks, an upcoming Intercity Meeting to honor our Foundation donors, and a personal reflection on my recent visits across our District.

With World Polio Day upon us on 24 October, we are reminded of RI President Yinka Babalola’s powerful words: “99.9 per cent is not 100 per cent.” To close the final gap and ensure no child ever suffers from polio again, District 3450 is mobilizing for three major End Polio Walk events across our region. I strongly urge every club to participate:

Mongolia End Polio Walk: Successfully held on 26 September 2026 at 09:30 AM at the National Garden Park, organized by the Rotary, Rotaract, Interact, and Junioract Clubs of Mongolia.

Macau End Polio Charity Walk & Run: Taking place on 25 October 2026 from 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM at the Hac Sa Reservoir Natural Park. Join the 8KM Trail Run or the 3KM Charity Walk (pets are welcome!).

Hong Kong End Polio Walk: Happening on 29 November 2026 from 10:00 AM to 12:15 PM at the Peak Road Garden. Bring your furry friends along for this pet-friendly walk!

We have various sponsorship tiers available, and I encourage you to join the PolioPlus Society (Club: US$2,000 / Individual: US$300) or donate directly to the PolioPlus Fund. Let’s walk together to end Polio.

Looking ahead to December, I am delighted to invite you to a premier evening of fellowship and celebration. On 4 December 2026, we will host an Intercity Meeting featuring The Rotary Foundation Donor’s Recognition.

We are deeply honored to welcome Rotary International Director Elect Edna Sutter as our Guest of Honor. The event will be held at the Regency Ballroom of the Hyatt Regency Tsim Sha Tsui (18 Hanoi Road, TST). This is a wonderful opportunity to recognize our generous donors and listen to inspiring insights from Director Elect Sutter.

Finally, I want to express my deepest gratitude to all of you. As of October 2026, I have officially completed my 2026-2027 District Governor visits, having had the absolute privilege of visiting 120 clubs.

Words cannot fully express my delight at the hospitality and warmth I received at every club visit. I was incredibly heartened by the open communication, vibrant fellowship, and shared passion for service evident in every club. Thank you for receiving me so warmly and for making these visits so memorable and meaningful. Your dedication to “Service Above Self” reassures me that the future of our District is in excellent hands.

Let’s continue to Create Lasting Impact together. I look forward to seeing you at the End Polio Walks and the Intercity Meeting.

Yours in Rotary
